Looking for a day trip that will give you some culture without leaving New York State? The Long Island Museum in Stony Brook features a journey throughout the region’s rich history with a rich array of exhibits spanning from art to history and heritage. Founded in 1939, we’re dedicated to preserving and showcasing American art, history and carriages, and we’re the only Smithsonian affiliate in the region. The Long Island Museum’s crown jewel is our 40,000-square-foot Carriage Museum, which houses the world’s finest collection of horse-drawn vehicles and transportation artifacts. Our commitment to education is displayed through our various programs and exhibits designed to inspire people of all ages.
