We asked a variety of local businesses the following question:

“The national BioTrack system and our in-store kiosks keep our customers safe and well-informed.” – Sophia Mortell, owner of Purple Plains in Pound Ridge

As a recreational cannabis shop, our goal is to keep our customers safe and informed about products they have purchased or wish to buy. Thanks to the BioTrack technology and our in-store kiosks, we can easily do both.

“BioTrack is a seed-to-sale tracking software that is used throughout most of the cannabis industry and definitely in New York State,” says Sophia Mortell, owner of Purple Plains. “Every type of business—the growers, processors and retailers—is part of this integrated system that tracks every seed from the time its harvested to when it’s purchased. So, if there’s a recall, we are notified immediately, and we can alert anyone who has purchased the recalled product from our store.”

With this technology, we know if the strain was processed into a chocolate bar, a lotion, a vape, etc., as well as if it’s still in a package on our shelves or has gone home with a customer. This technology also helps us track each customer’s purchases so we don’t over dispense.

Additionally, our web-based ordering system allows customers to build their carts and purchase products online for in-store pickup or delivery. Or they can come in and use one of four in-store kiosks to build their cart and work with a “budtender.”

“Customers can read the product descriptions online to learn about the THC percentages and effects on the body,” says Mortell. “And if they’re in our store, they can see and smell every flower at our bud bar or view the packaged products before they purchase. Once they checkout on our kiosk, their products are packaged up and brought to them within minutes. It’s that personal service that makes our shop special.”
