We asked a variety of local businesses the following question:

“We use technology to help you find the right mattress for your body and sleep style.” – Mike Leibowitz, CEO of Willow Furniture & Design in Bedford Hills

If you ask 10 people how they slept last night, there might be one person who says they had a great night’s sleep.

“Several factors can impact your sleep, but I’m amazed by how many people are actually not sleeping well because of their mattress,” says Mike Leibowitz, CEO of Willow Furniture & Design in Bedford Hills. “But shopping for a new mattress can be overwhelming, especially if your mattress is over 10 years old. You may think you know what you want, but mattresses are made differently today, and even if you’ve enjoyed your mattress, it’s probably not the same firmness you started with.”

With 26 different types of mattresses in The Mattress Shoppe, we want our customers to find the perfect mattress for them, and that’s where our technology comes in. We use a special diagnostic tool to assess your sleep style and narrow down the type of mattress that’s right for you.

“We start with you laying on a pressure sensitive mat with a pillow in the position you sleep in at home,” Leibowitz explains. “The mat maps your body’s weight, sleep style and pressure points onto a computer screen. Then, we ask some general questions about your sleep style and things you want to improve. This helps us create a support report, which tells you what level of firmness is best for you.”

The report narrows it down to three to four options, and from there, it’s about personal comfort. We show you the mattresses recommended in the report, and you can lay on each one. We also discuss price, how long you’d like your mattress to last and the level of technology you’re comfortable with.

If you share your bed with your partner, we assess your partner separately and then help you determine if there’s a mattress that would work for both of you or if you should consider split mattresses.

“If you need a firm mattress, but your partner needs a soft one, somebody will have to sacrifice,” Leibowitz explains. “But a split mattress eliminates that. Split mattresses have the added benefit of split adjustable bases. So, if you’re a back sleeper and want to slightly lift your head, but your partner can’t because they’re a side sleeper, you can accomplish that.”

Another technological advancement that can help you sleep better is the zero-gravity position on adjustable beds; it elevates your head, knees and legs slightly above your heart, which increases your circulation. This can reduce swelling in your legs and feet, relieve back pain and help you fall asleep faster.

While our technology is part of the reason we’ve had no mattress returns, even with our 120-sleep day guarantee, the other contributor is our superior customer service.

“Just because something is technologically advanced doesn’t mean it’s right for you,” Leibowitz cautions. “People sometimes get in over their heads with the technology and either under-utilize it or they’re not sure what to do at all. So, we make sure the bed and the technology are right for you.”
