Meet Lucy Moore, a second grader at Coman Hill Elementary School, who loves pink, sings in a band and wants to be BETTER than Taylor Swift when she grows up.
What’s your favorite band?
Charming Disaster. It’s a spooky band, and I made a costume for it for Halloween.
Have you ever seen them in concert?
Yes. I have a signed record from them. And I know the singer.
What’s your favorite song by them?
Disembodied Head.
What’s that song about?
A head without a body.
What’s your favorite food?
Probably octopus.
Really? What do you like about octopus?
It tastes good, and it’s greasy and lemony.
What would you buy with $100?
100 octopuses.
Anything else?
I’m saving up for a 3D printer. Well, wait, I got the money.
How did you get the money?
I did chores and earned stars.
What do you want to print with your 3D printer?
EVERYTHING!
What is something adults don’t understand about kids?
Lucy Language.
What is Lucy Language?
It’s my language.
Can you speak it to me?
Gagee shemabee shemabee.
What does that mean?
It means I like your earrings.
So I heard you’re in a band called Party in the Playroom. Who came up with that name?
I think it was my dad.
When did you form the band?
I wasn’t alive. It was my sister and my dad. Then I joined as the lead singer. Obviously.
What’s your favorite song to sing?
I make up songs. I have a million in my head right now.
Is there one that sticks out to you?
Nah.
What makes you unique?
I’ve taught myself my maths and my vibes.
How so?
I just do stuff that most people don’t do.
Math or vibes?
All of it. And when I said that just now, that was my self-taught vibes. My math is how I do equations really well.
Tell me about your personal style.
Usually just fun. I just look into my drawer, I find something fun, and I match it. And I always include a headband.
How many headbands do you have?
A lot. I have rainbow ones, I have black ones. I have a lot of them, just different colors.
I know you like art. What do you like about it?
Making it, looking at it, seeing it, then making the same thing, just adding different things and seeing which one I like better.
What’s your favorite piece of art?
Probably the unicorn.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A singer. No, wait, a dancer. No, wait, both.
Like Taylor Swift?
Better.
