When Anne Mayhew was a young mom to three kids under the age of four, she decided she wanted to learn how to bake “really good bread.” So she did what any future entrepreneur would do: mastered sourdough while her kids slept. Soon, her friends began sampling and then buying loaves, and two years ago, she and her husband opened the brick and mortar LMNOP Bakery on Katonah Avenue, filling the void The Baker’s Cafe left when they closed in 2001. Their mission is to provide high-quality and innovative baked goods, excellent service and a location to help facilitate connections within our community.

Everyone has a favorite at LMNOP Bakery, and because Mayhew and her team of bakers only use simple ingredients and healthy whole grains, you can feel good about buying their breads (which Mayhew recommends you slice and freeze if not consuming immediately) and a little less guilty about buying a mouthwatering pastry or cookie to pair with their delicious coffee.

Insider Tip

Head to the bakery on Friday morning for Rye Day and/or their 100 percent einkorn bread. On Saturdays, get there early for their sourdough pretzels and rather large, two-kilo whole-grain miche loaf.

Gia Miller is an award-winning journalist and the editor-in-chief/co-publisher of Connect to Northern Westchester. She has a magazine journalism degree (yes, that's a real thing) from the University of Georgia and has written for countless national publications, ranging from SELF to The Washington Post. Gia desperately wishes schools still taught grammar. Also, she wants everyone to know they can delete the word "that" from about 90% of their sentences, and there's no such thing as "first annual." When she's not running her media empire, Gia enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, laughing at her crazy dog and listening to a good podcast. She thanks multiple alarms, fermented grapes and her amazing husband for helping her get through each day. Her love languages are food and humor.
