Nestled in the hills of northern Westchester, NY, is Stepping Stones, the historic home of two little known yet pioneering global humanitarians Bill and Lois Wilson, respective cofounders of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon Family Groups. Visitors to the historic home and archive learn about the Wilsons’ world impact, which continues today. The Stepping Stones Foundation (est. 1979) is a tax-exempt nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization (Federal ID # 13-303-1164) that preserves and shares the 8-acre National Historic Landmark museum with its historic structures, collection of 110,000 original objects and documents, and a digital archive of the Wilsons’ personal papers. In safeguarding and making available these global treasures, the Foundation fosters public understanding of alcoholism and inspires recovery.
Support for Stepping Stones ensures the ongoing care of and year-round access to the beloved 1920 home, Bill’s writing studio, Welcome Center, community and flower gardens, woodlands, and 110,000 archival documents. Visitors, students, and researchers explore the place where Bill and Lois Wilson lived and worked from 1941 until their deaths in 1971 and 1988, respectively. Opportunities to connect to Stepping Stones, include volunteer and internship opportunities; tours; virtual and off-site events, plays, film screenings, and archive; community garden; and financial support. Donations of any amount, including planned gifts, gifts of stock, and more, celebrate the work of the Wilsons and support our mission.
