Meet Emma Hernandez. She’s a four-year-old budding chef and artist who loves preschool and playing video games with her older brother.

What’s your favorite color?

Pink?

Why pink?

Because it’s light.

What is your least favorite color?

Blue.

Why don’t you like blue?

Because it’s a boring color.

What’s your favorite thing to draw?

A person.

What colors do you use?

All the colors. But there are girl colors and boy colors.

What are the girl colors?

Pink and purple.

What are the boy colors?

I don’t know.

What about blue or green?

No.

What’s your favorite food?

Rice, tuna and eggs.

Do you make it yourself?

No.

Who makes it for you?

Daddy and Mommy.

Who makes it better?

Mommy. But I cook with Daddy.

What do you like to cook?

Daddy’s chicken.

How do you make it?

We have powder, eggs, breadcrumbs and chicken. We cover it with powder, then we cover it with eggs, and then then we cover it with breadcrumbs.

What part do you do?

All of it. Then I make the slime.

Do you like school?

Yeah.

What’s your favorite thing to do?

Sit on the rug.

What do you do when you sit on the rug?

The teacher talks.

Does she read a story?

Yes.

What types of stories does she read?

I don’t know.

What’s your favorite TV show?

Gabby’s Dollhouse.

Can you tell me about it?

There’s so many Gabby cats in the show.

What do you like to do with your brother?

Play Astro Bot.

Is that a video game?

It’s a on the PS5.

Do you have any other video game systems?

I have a Nintendo.

What do you play on Nintendo?

Mario.

Which character are you?

I am always a princess.

What are their names?

Princess Peach, Daisy and Rosalina.

Do you have a favorite princess?

Peach.

Why Princess Peach?

Because it’s my favorite color, pink.

Justin is an award-winning designer and photographer. He was the owner and creative director at Future Boy Design, producing work for clients such as National Parks Service, Vintage Cinemas, The Tarrytown Music Hall, and others. His work has appeared in Bloomberg TV, South by Southwest (SXSW), Edible Magazine, Westchester Magazine, Refinery 29, the Art Directors Club, AIGA and more.

Justin is a two-time winner of the International Design Awards, American Photography and Latin America Fotografia. Vice News has called Justin Negard as “one of the best artists working today.”

He is the author of two books, On Design, which discusses principles and the business of design, and Bogotà which is a photographic journey through the Colombian capital.

Additionally, Justin has served as Creative Director at CityMouse Inc., an NYC-based design firm which provides accessible design for people with disabilities, and has been awarded by the City of New York, MIT Media Lab and South By Southwest.

He lives in Katonah with his wonderfully patient wife, son and daughter.
