Hope’s Door seeks to end domestic violence and to empower victims to achieve safety, independence, and healing from the trauma of abuse. More than 40 years ago, activists with the Junior League of Northern Westchester, with support from the criminal justice and interfaith community, conducted a needs assessment and identified domestic violence as a compelling issue of deep concern in Westchester County. As a result, the Northern Westchester Shelter was founded and later became Hope’s Door. More than four decades later, we have served in excess of 16,000 individuals with our trauma-informed and multicultural services.

Today Hope’s Door prevents, responds to, and partners to end domestic and intimate partner violence to hundreds of victims each year. Hope’s Door provides a 24/7/365 crisis, support and information hotline 1-888-438-8700 (the gateway to all services) as well as emergency shelter to ensure individuals are safe from the threat of violence. In 2024 alone, Hope’s Door responded to 1,885 Hotline calls – up 27% from last year. Hope’s Door also offers bilingual counseling, advocacy and legal services and a prevention and education program, Love Shouldn’t Hurt. Through Love Shouldn’t Hurt more than 7,000 youth across Westchester County are empowered with potentially lifesaving knowledge about abuse. All of our services are free of charge and provided regardless of gender, race, creed, color, ethnicity, disability, socio-economic status, or sexual orientation. Donations fund programs to keep families and children safe in their homes.
