What’s one thing your customers don’t know you do behind the scenes?
We make “in-house” salad dressings from our recipes: chili ranch, blue cheese, 1000 Island, Parmesan peppercorn. And, of course, we make our cream of tomato bacon soup.
What’s something you do that seems small but makes a huge difference?
We donate to local charities, school events and sports teams generally with a gift card. Then we can welcome the recipients to our establishment. We also have a “soup list” where we will call you when your favorite soup is being made.
If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing instead?
Collecting beach glass, sea shells and art projects.
What’s the best advice you ever received?
“Stay loose,” from Dick O’Leary, our dad.
When did you open (month & year)?
Spring 1987.
Describe your business in three words.
Genuine. Charming. Welcoming.
What’s something your business does differently than anyone else?
Remember your name or your cocktail or that you like an extra side of Parmesan peppercorn dressing.
What’s one thing people often say when they first walk in?
“Does Tommy still bartend here?” “Are you always this busy?” “Look at all the college pendants and vintage road signs!” “How long have you been working here?”
What is your most popular item?
Our signature twice-cooked wings, fries and cheeseburgers.
What is something you wish more people knew about you and/or your business?
The longevity, loyalty and team spirit of our entire work staff—kitchen, bar, servers and table bussers. The very many Blazer employees who juggle careers in so many fields. Our employees now have careers in so many fields: lawyers, nurses, teachers, real estate agents, social workers, speech therapists, finance, performing arts and, of course, mothers and grandmothers. Good restaurant experience is a foundation for so many careers.
