POW WOW, the annual spring exhibition at the Colorblends House and Spring Garden

URSA Gallery is proud to present POW WOW, the annual spring exhibition at the Colorblends House and Spring Garden, curated by looketha. Opening March 31 and on view through May 10, the show brings together a wide-ranging group of contemporary artists within one of Connecticut’s most distinctive cultural settings, where landscape, architecture, and artistic practice meet in a shared atmosphere of exchange and discovery.

The title POW WOW evokes gathering, collective presence, and the energy created when artists and audiences come together in one space. It also carries an older resonance, tracing to the Algonquian-rooted phrase pau wau or pua wua, often interpreted as “he who dreams.”

“The Stories We Share”

On view April 18 – July 4

Be part of the history happening today as the New Castle Historical Society celebrates our 60th anniversary with The Stories We Share, on view April 18 – July 4. Since this local milestone coincides with America’s semiquincentennial, this exhibition of rarely-exhibited objects from the NCHS collection showcases New Castle stories from the Revolutionary era to today. Original letters, diaries, ledgers, photographs, paintings, and everyday objects of yesteryear fill the rooms of the Greeley House, itself an integral piece of local history dating back to the early 1850s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One of the key objects in the exhibition is the 1903 Patriotic Quilt by Sarah Griffith, which features dozens of hand-stitched figures and scenes from American History. From the earliest Quaker families to settle in this area and the agricultural economy that sustained local residents for over a century, to the arrival of the train, industrialization, global wars, and the establishment of today’s suburban community, this exhibition traces the history of New Castle through its people. The exhibition includes a scavenger hunt for families, encouraging young visitors to discover unique historical objects and stories from the past that connect to life today. There is also an activity room on the upper floor where visitors of all ages can reflect upon the stories in the exhibition and share their own. We hope you will find reflections of yourself, your family, your friends, and your neighbors reflected in the stories we share!

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with Nobuyuki Tsujii

The electrifying chemistry between Orpheus and pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii is so special that the orchestra named him an honorary member! Nobu, who is blind, shares a deep musical connection with the ensemble that’s built on a decade of listening, trust, and unrivaled artistry. They reunite for a romp through the frisky Piano Concerto No. 2 that made young Beethoven a force to be reckoned with. A new arrangement augments the chamber orchestra repertoire with a seminal work that signaled the genius of young Brahms, the First Piano Trio. Comedian Bios

Tom Van Horn has been a professional comedian for over twenty years, working regularly at New York venues such as The Comic Strip, Stand-Up NY, Gotham Comedy Club and The Comedy Cellar. He has appeared on Last Comic Standing (NY Semifinalist), AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live, E! Entertainment Television and Fox News “Red Eye” with Greg Gutfeld.

Tom has performed at the Nantucket Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Festival and The NY Underground Comedy Festival.

Sonya Vai was born and raised in New York City but is constantly asked, “Where are you really from?” by drunk men in bars. Sonya’s subversive brand of comedy - challenging not only gender but ethnic and religious stereotypes - has been featured at comedy clubs as well as independent shows across the country.

Sonya recently participated in the CinderBlock Comedy Festival in Brooklyn, NY. Last year she opened for the 'PBS Socal Presents' film screening of the award winning documentary Meet The Patels. She was also on the 'Comedy's Best Kept Secret' tour, performing in 25 shows over 23 days across 21 cities from Las Vegas to New York.

Tayler Yarish is a NYC-based comedian, originally from Baltimore, who’s been making people laugh his whole life. He’s been a featured performer at multiple comedy festivals including New York Comedy Festival, SLO Comedy Festival, Baltimore Comedy Festival, and Charm City Comedy Festival. When he’s not touring around the country, he can be seen nightly at comedy clubs throughout NYC.

Jeff Medoff is a comedian and writer. Originally from Massachusetts, he grew up drawing comic strips and playing the bass guitar in local bands. He wanted to be a doctor but decided not to after discovering his passion for comedy (and not because he didn’t get accepted to medical school).

Jeff has performed all over the northeast including venues such as Don't Tell Comedy, Comix Mohegan Sun, The Laugh Factory and Laugh Boston. He chosen as a Comic Sit-In at The Riot Theater in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, and from 2019 to 2021 he co-hosted ‘The Hardly Working Podcast’, a show with musician and friend Nick Russo.

Jeff moved to Brooklyn in 2021 and can now be found on stage nightly throughout New York City, though he frequently returns to his New England roots for comedy and Celtics games.

Ben Rosenfeld's comedy is “playfully dark, seriously smart.” Ben’s comedy blends his family’s experience as Russian Jewish immigrants in America with his philosophical and political observations and unique characters. Ben has been seen on BuzzFeedVideo and is slightly “TikTok famous” with over a quarter-million followers and 100 million views. He’s also appeared on FOX’s Laughs, Travel Channel’s Mysteries At The Museum, CBS This Morning, Nat Geo’s Brain Games, Netflix’s Brainchild, NPR’s Weekend Edition, FOX News Saturday Night, SiriusXM Radio, The New York Post and been featured as TimeOut New York’s Joke of the Week. He has twice headlined at Caroline’s on Broadway, hosted at the Lincoln Center and performs nightly in New York City. Ben has five comedy albums and two illustrated humor books.
