Common Ground: Pollinators, Plants, and People

Westchester Land Trust – Common Ground: Pollinators, Plants, and People

When you think of pollinators, what animals and habitat come to mind? Most picture butterflies and bees in a meadow, but did you know there are many pollinators who rely on forested habitat as well?

Join Westchester Land Trust staff at Westchester Wilderness Walk/Zofnass Family Preserve in Pound Ridge for an exploration of forest pollinator habitat. Learn about the variety of creatures that occupy this niche and the importance of their role in the ecosystem. We’ll also discuss what a healthy habitat entails, and how landscaping practices may affect your backyard pollinators as well as neighboring woods and wildlife.

This program is part two of a four-part series titled, Common Ground: How Land Use Affects the Ecosystem. This series aims to demonstrate how mindful land use and management can help minimize our impact on the environment. Each of the four programs will take place during a different season, in a different ecosystem; keep an eye out for the next one on aquatic ecosystems in July!
