Describe your business in three words.
High-quality childcare & education.
If your business had a theme song, what would it be?
“Count On Me” by Bruno Mars
What’s your business’s unofficial motto?
“Give every child the best 11 hours and sprinkle a little magic!”
What’s something your business does differently than anyone else?
MKCCC operates as a nonprofit. We help working families thrive by providing equitable access to high-quality child care and early education, along with a holistic approach to supporting family needs—regardless of a family’s financial situation. We know that for families to truly thrive, they need a wide range of support. That’s why we have a social worker on staff to help families navigate challenges and connect with local partners for additional resources, from special services to diapers when needed. In addition, our incredible seed-to-table nutrition education program ensures all our children establish healthy eating habits and have access to nutritious, high-quality foods.
What’s the one thing your business couldn’t function without?
The amazing community! From our passionate supporters and volunteers who champion our mission, to the local restaurants that bring their talent to our annual fundraiser, Feed Me Fresh, to the families who welcome us into their lives. The community launched us over 50 years ago to support women entering the workforce, and it continues to power our mission today, helping local working families thrive.
What’s one thing people often say when they first walk in?
It feels like home!
What’s the unsung hero of your business?
Our teachers! They are the heart and soul of all we do!
What’s a word or phrase customers often use to describe your business—and do you agree?
Our parents and supporters often describe MKCCC as “like family.” And of course, we agree! We truly become part of the lives of the families who attend MKCCC, often staying connected even after they leave. We’ve had students return asking for help with college applications, to volunteer in classrooms, and, in special cases, to become teachers themselves. Many parents move into board positions or serve on committees. It’s hard to be here and not feel like family—and that sense of connection informs everything we do and the relationships we maintain in the community.
What is something you wish more people knew about your organization?
At the core of our mission to provide equitable access to high-quality care is ensuring our classrooms represent the amazingly diverse community we are in. Providing the highest-quality care and innovative programming is a tablestake for creating the true magic that happens when the richness of our entire community is loved and represented in the classroom.
